This picture was taken in the doorway of the "new wing" entrance to Preventive Medicine and the dean's office, at the formal opening of that building. Dr. Robinson returned to Vanderbilt for the occasion.
W. David Strayhorn, Sr. (1904-1981) was a physician, cardiologist, and teacher. He conducted research in heart disease and pregnancy. He was the first Chief of the Cardiovascular Disease Clinic at Vanderbilt Hospital in 1951.
Before the construction of the Eskind Library in 1994, Garland Ave. connected 24th and 21st avenues, and the street was several lanes further to the east. Here, a traffic cop stops cars, allowing a pedestrian to cross Garland.
