Photographic portrait of Duncan Eve Sr. Duncan Eve, Sr. was born in a prominent medical family of Southern surgeons and educators. Eve received his A.B. from the University of Nashville in 1870 and his M.D. from Bellevue Medical College in 1874. For many years Eve served as chief surgeon for the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railroad and as district surgeon for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. He made significant contributions to the understanding of traumatic surgery, publishing a textbook entitled Fractures in 1907. Eve served as Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical School from 1905 to 1925. Additionally, the doctor held a surgical practice in Nashville, at which he partnered with his son, Dr. Duncan Eve Jr. and Dr. William H. Edwards.
